Sagarmatha Gold Black Tea

Sagarmatha Gold is a first-prize-winning first flush black tea named after the breathtaking Mount Everest. Highly Commended at THE LEAFIES International Tea Competition 2024, this tea is renowned for its golden buds and captivating, complex flavor profile. Its golden liquor reveals delightful notes of milk chocolate, hazelnut, cocoa powder, oat, and cane sugar. A must-try for black tea lovers.

To the Nepalese, Mount Everest is “Sagarmatha,” and this first-flush tea delivers an experience as rarefied as pure mountain air. Grown at 7,000 feet in rich soil, its tender buds are plucked, withered, naturally oxidized, hand-rolled, and dried with care.

True to its name, Sagarmatha Gold ranked first in an international tea tasting held at Mount Everest Base Camp in April 2018 and earned global recognition at THE LEAFIES 2024. This tea highlights the excellence of Nepal’s Ilam region, home to the world’s finest teas.

Benefits of Sagarmatha Gold Black Tea

Black tea is renowned for its bold flavor and energizing properties. Packed with antioxidants like theaflavins and catechins, it supports heart health, boosts immunity, and enhances focus. Nepali black teas, such as Sagarmatha Gold, capture the unique terroir of Nepal, offering malty, robust notes that are as rich in flavor as they are in tradition.

Why Choose Sagarmatha Gold Black Tea?

Nepal tea stands apart due to its vibrant character and unparalleled freshness, thanks to the high-altitude farms of the Ilam region. Crafted as single-origin teas by small, sustainable farms, these teas are free from additives and pesticides, embodying the essence of organic tea. Nepali black tea offers a bold yet smooth taste, perfect for tea enthusiasts seeking authenticity and quality in every sip.

How It's Made

Crafted from the first flush buds plucked at an elevation of 7,000 feet in Nepal’s pristine Ilam region, this tea represents the pinnacle of quality and craftsmanship. Renowned for its unparalleled flavor and rarity, it is among the most sought-after Nepali teas, commanding premium prices globally. The journey begins with the careful plucking of prime buds during the cool morning hours, extending through the afternoon. Each bud is selected with an open leaf attached to the stem, allowing the buds to breathe naturally. After 10-12 hours, the extra leaf is delicately detached, ensuring the buds remain in optimal condition for further processing. The slightly withered buds are placed on netted trays overnight under cool, controlled conditions. The next day, they undergo gentle machine rolling for 20-30 minutes without applying pressure to preserve their structure. The rolled buds are then hand-rolled and conditioned for an additional 15-20 minutes, ensuring even oxidation. To achieve their exceptional character, the buds are placed in bamboo baskets covered with cotton cloth for 3-4 hours to ferment. This fermentation process is repeated after another round of hand-rolling, with the buds left overnight for deeper oxidation. Finally, the fermented buds are oven-dried at 110-140°C for 1 to 1.5 hours, rested for up to 10 days, and then hand-sorted before undergoing a final re-drying at 90-100°C.
